Waterloo Road - Shed Media

Waterloo Road is one of BBC 1’s most popular dramas, regularly pulling in more than 5 million viewers. This highly rated drama is produced by Shed Media and is based around a school in Rochdale and it follows the lives and troubles of it's staff and pupils.

Sumners has been involved with Waterloo Road from the start of it's run in 2005 and we are currently in the process of finishing series 6. Providing the offline facilities, on set ADR recording and full video and audio finishing, Sumners is responsible for turning out 20 hours of prime time drama for each series.

We have had to adapt to different ways of working over the years when the move from standard definition to high definition was implemented at the start of series 5. With our experience of handling high profile dramas and our knowledge of high definition Sumners has helped to make the switch over as smooth as possible for Shed.

The number of episodes per series has expanded from 8 episodes in series 1 to 20 eps in the current series. The extra work load has not effected the service that we provide and this is down to the exceptional skill and dedication of the Sumners team. Rob Douglas-Reeves heads up the onlines whilst Jamie Parry is responsible for grading each episode on the DaVinci 2k.

The audio mixes are split between two of our Senior Dubbing mixers, Richard Lee and Tony Greenwood. The post production on series 6 was completed in July for transmission later in the year.

“Sumners have been the post production house of choice for Waterloo Road for the last few years. The staff there are professional and very supportive to the production. Janet and her team are always flexible and adaptable to our needs and all of our directors and producers leave feeling they’ve been well looked after.”
