Editing - Editorial
Sumners offers over 25 edit suites that are all connected to a centrally managed storage architecture based around Avid Unity MediaNet and ISIS. We have a full range of Avid edit equipment running the latest software versions to support state-of-the-art tapeless, file based workflows.
We also have Apple Final Cut Pro suites within the mix.
All our editorial suites are fully air conditioned with access to all broadcast tape formats for ingest and playout, as well as being networked to our core technical facilities area for playouts or background digitising.
The advance network architecture within the facility also provides all suites access to the Sumners Preview Theatre. This allows for editors to easily upload edits to the preview theatre for web based review and approval. The preview theatre utilises a Telestream Flip Factory as its encoding engine on the network, thus not tying up edit suites to perform encodes for the web. All suites also have direct access to the Sumners sound effects server, which is an easy to use searchable archive of all the major sound effects libraries.
Editing - Finishing
The picture finishing area is headed up by Rob Douglas-Reeves, whose team also includes renowned editors Matt Brown and Paul Shields. This team works closely with Roger Sanderson’s technical team to ensure all finished programmes meet broadcasters' delivery requirements.
Sumners' picture finishing area is based around 5 Avid Symphony HD Nitris DX suites and an Avid DS Nitris. The suites are fully networked for close collaborative working and also have an efficient workflow incorporating the DaVinci grading area.
Grading
Sumners grading area is headed up by Senior Colourist Jamie Parry. Jamie has established notable reputation as one of the country’s leading colourists. In addition to his creative skills, Jamie is a fountain of technical knowledge with respect to digital film and associated technologies. Jamie has developed his own workflows for efficient handling of digital film files (e.g.RED) for Avid and FCP environments.
The main HD grading suite is equipped with a DaVinci 2K machine. Although the DaVinci is acknowledged as an industry standard for quality drama grading, at Sumners we have exposed many other genres to the benefits of powerful real time grading. In Jamie’s capable hands many documentaries, entertainment shows and low budget films have had the benefit of a ‘high end grade’.
